Marchant Schmidt, Inc. a market leader in the design and manufacture of equipment for the food and dairy industry is currently seeking (2) highly motivated sales professionals to manage our Midwest and Eastern U.S. sales regions.  Both positions offer great opportunity for growth and compensation with an excellent product line and a well-established customer base. 

Summary:  Utilize experience to sell capital equipment in the food/dairy industry and to build and maintain customer relationships.  Manage territory to consistently support company goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Contact new and existing customers to discuss their needs, and to explain how these needs could be met by specific Marchant Schmidt, Inc. products and services.
  • Advise customer on types of equipment to purchase, considering factors such as cost, space availability, and intended use.
  • Answer customer’s questions about products, prices, availability, or credit terms.
  • Emphasize product features based on analyses of customer’s needs and on technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations.
  • Negotiate prices or terms of sales or customer specifications.
  • Maintain customer records using automated systems.  Prepare monthly sales forecasts and weekly trip reports.
  • Identify prospective customers by using business directories, industry networking, following leads from existing clients, participating in organizations, and attending trade shows and conferences.
  • Select the correct products or assist customers in making product selections, based on customer’s needs and product specifications.
  • Resolve customer complaints regarding equipment, supplies, and services.
  • Must be able to travel 60% to 70% of the time.

Knowledge:

  • Sales and Marketing – knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.  This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
  • Customer Service – knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.  This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Food Industry – extensive knowledge of the food industry and/or food packaging field, and capital equipment.

Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in Sales & Marketing, Mechanical Engineering or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
